Buddha's Birthday Celebration

Related topics:

All are invited to morning service at 9 a.m., followed by walking meditation, and then Shinge Roshi's teisho (talk) at 10:15. After another walking meditation we'll gather in the Forman House (the big building in front) for the celebration, starting at 11:15. Children are most welcome. We'll hear the story of Shakyamuni Buddha's birth, and we'll take turns bathing the Baby Buddha figure with sweet tea, singing a special verse. Then we'll enjoy a potluck lunch and birthday cake. If you'd like to contribute some food to share, please make sure it's vegetarian, and label anything that has dairy or gluten.

We need volunteers as we get closer to the date. Please consider contributing to the celebration in any of the following ways:

  • Flowers: You may donate flowers or a financial contribution a few days before the celebration.
  • Potluck: You may let our Tenzo, Joraku, know what you plan to bring for the potluck, or ask what might be needed.
  • Saturday Altar Set-up: Volunteers can come the Zen Center on Saturday, April 6, to help set up for the celebration.
  • Post-Celebration Clean-up: Volunteers to stay after the celebration on April 7 to help clean up are much appreciated.

More details will be sent in another email later in March. Meanwhile, if you have questions about Buddha's Birthday, please email us at admin@hoenji.org.
