Parinirvana All-Day Sit: Online and In-person at Hoen-ji
Join us for this all-day sitting in honor of Shakyamuni Buddha’s passage into final Nirvana and in commemoration of Eido Tai Shimano Roshi’s passing on Feb. 19, 2018.
We are happy to announce that due to the falling numbers of Omicron cases in the Syracuse area, there will be limited in-person participation available at Hoen-ji for Sangha members who are fully vaccinated with boosters, follow our current Covid protocols (see below), and have no symptoms of any kind of respiratory illness. Masks will be required in the zendo.
If you wish to attend in-person at Hoen-ji, please email admin@hoenji.org by Wednesday, Feb. 16; otherwise please attend online. The suggested donation for attending in-person at Hoen-ji is $75. Payment instructions will be in the confirmation email.
Together with Sangha members at New York Zendo and residents at Dai Bosatsu Zendo, we will begin at 8 a.m. with the Parinirvana Day Ceremony. At 10 a.m., Shinge Roshi will offer dokusan to those who are sitting in-person at Hoen-ji. Chigan Roshi and Hokuto Sensei will offer dokusan and interviews on Zoom. After a break for lunch, we will resume with zazen at 2 p.m. and a teisho by Shinge Roshi at 3 p.m. on the significance of Parinirvana Day and Eido Roshi's teachings on This Great Matter. Formal sitting will end at 5 p.m. with a closing ceremony, followed by informal conversation on Zoom.
If you are attending in person, please bring your own vegetarian lunch, which you may eat in the Forman House at a distance from others, in your car, or outdoors if weather permits.
ZCS Covid Protocols require all in-person participants to provide 1) a negative PCR test two days prior to Sunday and, 2) a negative rapid test Saturday evening or Sunday morning before attending. Additional protocols and details will be provided via email confirmation.
