Samu, or work practice, is an integral part of Zen training. It is an opportunity to bring mindful attention to all that we do. There is much outdoor work that needs to be done at the Zen Center, from weeding to clearing paths.

Samu (work practice) is a wonderful opportunity for the sangha to work together in harmony to preserve and protect our temple property. It is unique to our practice to work together for these common goals.
Please join us at the Zen Center, Saturday, June 10 from 9am-noon. The main project will be to paint the railings on the ramps between the Zendo and Forman House. All supplies will be provided. Please let Daigan know if you plan to come or have questions by emailing him at darnold2@twcny.rr.com.

We will focus on outdoor work (much needed winter cleanup and sesshin prep) but there are indoor tasks as well, in case the weather does not cooperate. Plant life at Hoen-ji is responding readily to the warm weather and rain showers. The sangha grove and temple grounds continue to be lovely, healing, and in need of care. On Saturday, we will be gathering for a samu (work practice) day. Any amount of time you can offer would be greatly appreciated. We will be providing refreshments for volunteers. Read more »
