Opening the Buddhist Heart

Please join us for an evening of Buddhist chants and songs from the Pali, Sanskrit and Tibetan traditions.  Experience the peace, joy and healing of devotional traditions.  This activity is free and open to all and no musical experience is needed to participate.

Chanting will take place in the Zen Center's Zendo, behind the main house.

We will welcome donations for the Namgyal Monastery Elder Care Home in Shimla, India. Read more »

Sand Mandala

Tibetan Buddhist monks from the Gaden Shartse Monastery will create an intricate and vivid mandala (a circular sand painting) from October 7th to the 10th, from 9:30 am to 5 pm each day at the Zen Center of Syracuse’s Joshua Forman House. It is one of a series of events to mark the Zen Center’s observation of the bicentennial anniversary of the house built by Joshua Forman, founder and first president of the Village of Syracuse, at 266 West Seneca Turnpike. Every Saturday starting at 10:00 am (new comers at 9:45am), Vajrayana (Tibetan) Buddhist practice in the Gelugpa lineage is conducted at the Zen Center. Dharma Study is offered on the first Saturday of the month, immediately following the service. The format of the practice, which is centered on the Heart Sutra, was designed by the renowned Tibetan teacher Domo Geshe Rinpoche, and began in April, 1997. It is led by Andy Hassinger, a student of Domo Geshe Rinpoche for 28 years. Read more »
