Shoboji Anniversary Sesshin

Shinge Roshi leads us in this special weekend sesshin commemorating the founding of our temple 55 years ago.

New York Zendo Shoboji is one of the first Rinzai Zen practice centers to be established in the United States and continues to offer authentic Rinzai Zen training amid the bustle of daily life in Manhattan.

The sesshin will include zazen, chanting, teisho and dokusan. Formal meals using jihatsu (nested bowls) will be served. This sesshin will also be offered online. Read more »

Join us in person and online for this five-day sesshin at Dai Bosatsu Zendo, honoring Nyogen Senzaki, the great early pioneer of Zen in America whose teachings and poems continue to inspire us decades after his passing.

A student of Soen Shaku Roshi, Senzaki worked tirelessly to share the Dharma even while interned at Heart Mountain during World War II. His deep spiritual friendship with Soen Nakagawa Roshi was an underlying cause for the founding of Dai Bosatsu Zendo. Read more »

Celebrate Buddha's Birthday with us at Holy Days Sesshin online!

This sesshin will be led by Shinge Roshi and Hokuto Osho. On April 9 at 2:30 p.m. we will honor the birth of the Buddha with a special ceremony.

Online participants will also be able to join morning service, teisho each afternoon, and chanting and zazen each evening.

There is a suggested sliding scale fee of $75 - $200 — please choose the amount that’s right for you.

Experience the beginning of this season of renewal in person at Dai Bosatsu Zendo, as early spring breezes flow over Beecher Lake and new shoots begin to emerge.

We will honor the birth of the Buddha with a special ceremony, bathing a statue of the baby Buddha in his beautiful flower pavilion. We will also commemorate Master Rinzai, the founder of our Zen school.

Led by Shinge Roshi, this sesshin will be offered both in person and online, and will include teisho and dokusan. For those participating through Zoom, off-line time will be built into the schedule for meals, work practice at home and kinhin.
