How often are we really present for what is happening in any one moment? Distractibility interferes with our ability to listen, to focus, to respond, and to feel fully alive. This course in the cultivation of attention without tension is taught by Roko Shinge Sherry Chayat Roshi, a nationally recognized Zen Master who has been practicing Zen meditation for four decades.

The fee is $125; a reduced rate of $85 is available for students, seniors, and those with limited income. You may register below or by sending a check to the Zen Center of Syracuse, 266 W. Seneca Turnpike, Syracuse N.Y. 13207.

About the Course

Instruction is given in simple meditation techniques, including breath, posture, and basic principles of awareness. The guided discussion that follows a period of meditation helps participants develop new skills to address difficult life issues. Five evening classes include meditation instruction and practice, group discussion, and light refreshments.

“By returning to the present moment with each exhalation, we can begin to free ourselves from old patterns and can respond appropriately to the circumstances of our lives,” Shinge Roshi says. “We discover the innate wisdom and compassion that flows naturally from this deepening awareness.”

This course meets from 6:00pm to 7:30pm.
