The Syracuse Peace Council will commemorate the dropping of the atomic bombs on Hiroshima and Nakasaki, Japan during World War II with a program and procession that begins at 11:30 a.m. Monday, August 6 behind City Hall Commons, 201 E. Washington St. in downtown Syracuse. According to the Peace Council, the 45-minute march will end at the Everson Museum and close with short speeches on the ongoing relevance of the day "amidst the current global nuclear threat." March for a Nuclear-Free World

On August 6, 1945, the U.S. government dropped an atomic bomb on the city of Hiroshima, followed three days later by the bombing of Nagasaki, killing almost 200,000 innocent people. Join Syracuse‚Äôs annual Hiroshima commemoration and join with people around the world to remember the injustice and commit to a world without war on this 70th anniversary of the most concentrated act of terrorism in world history. We often partner with the Syracuse Peace Council and Peace Action on events, and plan to do so for this March, which begins at Clinton Square, and ends at the Everson Museum. Read more »

Welcome Peace Walkers for a Nuclear-Free Future

2015 marks 70 years since the atomic bombings of Hiroshima and Nagasaki. We must never let such disasters happen again!

The Peace Walkers are walking across the U.S. to the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty Review Conference at the United Nations in New York City. They are visiting many Native communities which are affected by contamination from nuclear activity.  Read more »
